Clayton Bears began in the summer of 2000 when I was living in the West Yorkshire village of Clayton West. I had been making bears for several months and decided to try and sell them at a local craft market in nearby Holmfirth. I sold my first bear that day, and I have been designing and making bears ever since.
Each bear takes 4 to 5 days to make. They are made from mohair and occasionally from alpaca. Ranging in size from 20cms to approximately 35cms, they are fully jointed with cotter pins, have black glass eyes and paw pads in ultrasuede or wool felt.
Once sewn, the bears are filled with a polyester filling and steel shot to give them a weighty feel. Finally their noses and mouths are hand embroidered.
Almost all my bears are single editions, making them the perfect gift or keepsake for someone special or as an addition to your teddy bear collection. Each Clayton Bear comes to you with a sewn in ‘Clayton Bears’ label and a swing tag with their name written on it. Should you wish to choose a different or more personal name for the bear you have purchased, please let me know.
The bears’ clothes are designed and handmade by me. Hats, scarves, cardigans, jumpers, tank tops, rompers and dresses are hand knitted in pure wool. Pinafore dresses with matching bloomers are handmade in pretty cotton fabrics, including Liberty and Tilda fabrics.
To purchase a bear please go to the ‘For Sale’ pages to view my current available bears.
New bears are added regularly to my website but if you would like me to inform you when a new bear is available, please join my mailing list on the Contact page.
Sorry, but I do not make bears to order.
Please note that Clayton Bears are not toys and are unsuitable for children aged 14 years or under.
